In any case, the implementation of multiple difficulty levels could solve the problem of the game-play being too hard for some anyway (although I hope there are also extra-high levels of difficulty too). In fact I really liked how the boss rush was implemented in X1 heck, I wouldn't even mind a randomized boss order during the rush. In terms of conventions, I think the games should maintain some form of the 'lives' system, as well as the 'boss rush' in some capacity even if it's reworked a bit like it was in X8, Command Mission, and, ironically, in the first X game.

The same goes for story, some want a completely new story and some want another Sigma plot.Įven though I'm an old-school fan, I'll admit I lean towards the 'radically new' side, but not so much that I think the formula should be changed completely. I see different fans veering towards different extremes on the issue: some want an old-school X game with old-school graphics and an old-school story, and some want something so radically new that in some cases they advocate for eliminating lots of conventions to appease casual fans. It seems to me the problem with developing 'Mega Man X9' is that different fans want different things from it.
